Setup Check - Checking the configuration of your PC

permaNET advises customers not to connect to our Arris cable modems using USB this configuration is not supported. Details on how to connect to our modems using the Ethernet interface of your PC are as follows.

Ethernet
Ethernet is a standard method of connecting two or more computers into a Local Area Network (LAN).

How to check TCP/IP settings on Windows XP

  1. From the Control Panel, double-click on the Network Connections icon. or
  2. Right-click on the connection you are using, which will either be a Local Area Connection.
  3. If you see an Enable option, click it.
  4. Select Properties.
  5. Click on Internet Protocol (TCP/IP).
  6. Click Properties.
  7. Make sure Obtain an IP address automatically is selected.
  8. Obtain DNS server address automatically should also be selected.
  9. Click OK. You will be returned to the Connection Properties page.
  10. Click OK to close.

How to check TCP/IP settings on Windows 2000

  1. From the Control Panel, double-click on the Network and Dial-up Connections icon.
  2. Right-click on the Local Area Connection you are using. The connection will usually have a Device Name which includes the text PCI, ethernet or Intel©.
  3. If you see an Enable option, click it.
  4. Select Properties.
  5. Click on Internet Protocol (TCP/IP).
  6. Click Properties.
  7. Select Obtain an IP address automatically.
  8. Select Obtain DNS server address automatically.
  9. Click OK. You will be returned to the Connection Properties page.
  10. Click OK to close.

How to check TCP/IP settings on Windows ME

  1. From the Control Panel, double-click on the Network icon. You will see the following: Scroll down the list.
  2. Select the TCP/IP for the network adapter you are using.
  3. Click Properties.
  4. Select Obtain an IP address automatically.
  5. Click on DNS Configuration along the top.
  6. Select Disable DNS.
  7. Click on Gateway along the top. If there is a gateway listed under Installed Gateways:
    • Click on the gateway.
    • Click Remove.
  8. Click OK. You will be returned to the Network window.
  9. Click OK. You will be prompted to restart your computer for the settings to take effect.
  10. Click Yes.

How to check TCP/IP settings on Windows 98

  1. From the Control Panel, double-click on the Network icon. You will see the following: Scroll down the list.
  2. Select the TCP/IP for the network adapter you are using
  3. Click Properties.
  4. Select Obtain an IP address automatically.
  5. Click on DNS Configuration along the top.
  6. Select Disable DNS.
  7. Click on Gateway along the top. If there is a gateway listed under Installed Gateways:
    • Click on the gateway.
    • Click Remove.
  8. Click OK. You will be returned to the Network window.
  9. Click OK.
