Security Tips - Safe Surfing

When you connect directly to a broadband network your computer could be at risk. Please ensure you secure your computer from attack by employing a firewall and up to date virus protection software.

We strongly advise customers to avoid illegal file sharing web sites and to refrain from downloading software where the origin is not clear.

WARNING - FAKE Support emails

Customers should be aware of fake support emails purporting to come from permaNET support or Microsoft support - The emails would appear similar to the one below and contain a link that could bring the user to a fake web site or a site that contains some form of malware. Make sure you do not clink on these links. If you receive an email and have concerns about the origin - call our support line for clarification. Regards permaNET Support

Dear user of the permanet.ie mailing service!
We are informing you that because of the security upgrade of the mailing service your mailbox settings were changed. In order to apply the new set of settings click on the following link: http://somefakeaddress that is made to look real Best regards,
permanet.ie

or this one that is made to look like it comes from Microsoft :

Dear Microsoft Customer,
Starting 18/10/2009 the ‘Conficker’ worm began infecting Microsoft customers unusually rapidly. Microsoft has been advised by your Internet provider that your network is infected. To counteract further spread we advise removing the infection using an antispyware program. We are supplying all effected Windows Users with a free system scan in order to clean any files infected by the virus. Please install attached file to start the scan. The process takes under a minute and will prevent your files from being compromised. We appreciate your prompt cooperation.
